The Harvest is Ready – Thoughts Following the Recent London Attacks

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Last night, in a brutal, senseless attack, seven people were killed near London Bridge station here in London. This is the third terror attack in the UK in 75 days with two previous attacks claiming the lives of 30 people.

As we gathered this morning in church, we prayed for the families of the victims. We also prayed for those in authority to have wisdom and courage to prevent future attacks and punish any living perpetrators. Finally, we prayed for men and women across the UK and the world to realise how fragile life is and to believe on Christ for eternal life.

This afternoon, a few of us went out into our community here in southeast London to give out leaflets, knock doors, and seek to share the gospel. We had a very encouraging time speaking to people from many different backgrounds. I can’t help but think that most people were extra open and sensitive due to how close the attack was to all of us here in London.

As we talked with people it was very clear who did and who did not have assurance of eternal life. Sadly, most people really do not know that they have eternal life. Most are trusting in their own opinions about things, their own religion, or don’t really care to think about what happens after death.

Please pray that over the next few days..

  • that many will respond to the work of the Holy Spirit
  • that Christians will take the opportunity to boldly speak about the hope that Christ gives, and
  • that all of us will realise how white the fields are to harvest.

All around the world, people are dying every day. Labourers are need to tell them the great hope the gospel gives. Who will go?
