Dangers of Drink

This comes from my pastor’s blog.

Isaiah 28:7-8 And even these reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they stagger with strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

What a passage of Scripture! Notice what happens to these people all because of an abuse of alcohol. Tell me if you have seen similar results.

They err or make mistakes in vision or direction and message from God. This is talking about the men of God. They are reeling, staggering, swallowed up by alcohol and that is causing them to make mistakes in their very calling. They were the men of God. They couldn’t get it right because they were too messed up!

They stumbled in judgment. They couldn’t make good decisions. They didn’t know what to do because the alcohol had so taken control of them.

The place was filthy due to vomit and lack of concern I suppose brought on by the abuse of the alcohol.

I do not know what to tell you. These were the men of God. They should have known how to control their alcohol intake. They should have been able to use it correctly but they didn’t.

I could not tell you how many times I have seen this come true in the lives of those that I love. I am a pastor. I love the people that God puts under my care. I watch as they indulge in the use of a little wine, cocktails, stronger drinks etc. They always tell me that they can control it. I rarely see them do so.

Most people end up making fools of themselves. Could I just give you a word of warning. Be careful not to get bitten by the drink.

Yes, all things are lawful for you but that does not mean you should do it. It might not be the best thing for you. For everyone that can control it many more can’t. 1Corinthians 6:12. I hope you will not allow yourself to be brought under its power.

The next question is what comes out of this habit that edifies or builds up. Maybe it gives you a momentary escape but as a Christian you really do not need to escape but rather confront and over come your problems. 1Corinthians 10:23
