Update: New Church Plant in Downham

DownhamThis past Tuesday was our final Bible study in Eltham. Thank you for praying for the outreach in that area. We started the Bible study in Eltham because of the need and to see what kind of interest there might be in the gospel and possibly for a new church plant.  Though we did have some opportunities to share the gospel and several people visited, all of those, except for a few Christians, have now stopped attending, so we decided to close the Bible study down. Maybe in the future, God will open up a door to do more gospel work there.

Though the Bible study in Eltham has stopped for now, the work of the gospel goes on! We have decided to focus our efforts on planting a brand new church in Downham, an area about 5 miles SW of Eltham. We had been looked at this area for a while regarding a new church plant, and we are moving ahead with plans to do just that in the coming days.

Right now, we have hired a local community centre for a month and are going to be having preliminary meetings starting this Sunday, 24 August. The meetings will be held at The REAP Centre (5 Oakridge Rd, Downham) on Sunday nights at 6.30pm and Tuesdays at 7.30pm. This coming Sunday evening, I will be preaching on “Our Great Mission in Life.” The next four Sundays, we will be looking at a four-part series entitled: “What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do”:

  • August 31st – Good News in a World Full of Bad News
  • September 7th – Discovering Your Life’s Purpose
  • September 14th – The Key to Overcoming Life’s Problems
  • September 21st – Finding Hope in a Hopeless World

On Tuesday evenings, we will be doing a study through the book of 1 John.

Please be in prayer for our team as we begin work in this new area. If you would like to help out with this new church plant, let us know. For those in the area, there are opportunities to help us distribute literature, knock doors, invite people, and support the services. For others who might like to give to the needs of the new church plant, you can go here to find out what is needed.
