Be Not Faithless, But Believing – John 20

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.” — John 20:27

From the very beginning, the main purpose of John’s gospel record is to reveal Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God and to cause people to believe on Him (see John 1:1-14).

Now at the end of the book, we find a doubting man, Thomas, crying out, “My Lord and my God,” as he beholds the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ standing before him.

Jesus invited him to touch his hands and side, to not be faithless but believing. And Jesus encourages us with the same thing. He doesn’t want us to be faithless but to believe in Him. Furthermore, there is a blessing on those who have not seen Jesus but still believe.

If I’m honest, I struggle with faith at times. Not that I don’t believe Jesus is God or my Saviour, but at times I struggle to trust Him for life’s challenges and worries. Yet, I have ever reason to believe. My Lord and God, Jesus Christ, has risen from the dead! How can I not believe? How can I not trust?

May the truth of who He is and what He has done fill me with faith today. May I launch out on His Word and in His power today!
