Chosen to Serve – Acts 22

And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.” — Acts 22:14

When Paul had his dramatic conversion from hatred of Jesus to faith in Jesus, God told him through Ananias that He had been chosen for a special purpose. This passage and other accounts of Paul’s conversion give us the reasons Paul was chosen.

  • To know God’s will (Acts 22:14)
  • To see the Just One (Jesus) and to hear the voice of His mouth (Acts 22:14)
  • To be a witness unto all men of what he had seen and heard (Acts 22:15)
  • To bear Christ’s name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel (Acts 9:15).
  • To suffer great things for Christ’s name (Acts 9:16)
  • To be a minister and a witness (Acts 26:16)
  • To open the eyes of the Gentiles and to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God (Acts 26:17-18)

Just as Paul was chosen for special service, we have been chosen for service as well. We may not be an Apostle, but we who have believed on Jesus are chosen to know the Lord, to know His Word, to be witnesses, to suffer for His name’s sake, and to serve the Lord so that others come to faith in Jesus.

What a privilege and what a responsibility to be chosen by God! May we serve and witness and suffer and fulfil the purpose for which He has saved us. May we walk worthy of our calling in Christ Jesus.
