Compassion on The Multitudes – Mark 8
“I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:” — Mark 8:2
Several times, we read in the gospel records of Jesus having compassion, and each time it is amazing. When others wanted to send the multitude of people away to get food, Jesus was moved with compassion to help them and to feed them.
To “have compassion” means to “have pity.” It means that Jesus cared. He wanted to do something to help them. He felt their hunger and their need. Their pain became His pain. Their problem became His problem. Their need became His need. As a result, He got involved and did something to alleviate their problems.
One of the most Christ-like things we can do is to “have compassion on the multitudes as well.” The more we love the Lord and become like the Lord, the more we will love and care about others.
When we care about the multitudes of people around the world who need the gospel we are demonstrating Christ-like compassion. When we don’t care and don’t do anything to help them, we are showing our lack of Christlikeness.
May God help us to love Him and be like Him so that we will genuine have compassion on the multitudes as well.
