Consecrated As Priests (Leviticus 8)

Leviticus 8:33 33 And ye shall not go out of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation in seven days, until the days of your consecration be at an end: for seven days shall he consecrate you.

The word “consecration” means setting or installing. It was the same word that was used when the various stones were “set” in the breastplate (Ex 35:27) and “set” in the temple (1 Chron 29:2). It is the idea of something or someone specially chosen and carefully installed into a position.

Leviticus 8 records for us the Levitical priests being set or installed as priests. They had been chosen by God for a specific task, and there was a special consecration ceremony they went through. They were washed with water, anointed with oil, sprinkled with blood, and clothed in priestly garments.

The amazing thing is that all those who believe on Christ today are made priests (1 Peter 2:9)! They are consecrated or specially set in Christ’s body and for service. They have their sins washed away. They are anointed by the Spirit, redeemed by Christ’s blood, and dressed in His righteousness.

What a privilege to serve as one of God’s priest today, helping to show people the way to God, and serving the Lord! May we not take the role and privilege lightly.
