God’s Will or Our Will – Jer 24
God has a will for our lives. In His will is the best place to be. Yet, we also have a will for our own lives. Our will is usually much different than God’s.
What we think is best for us is often not. And what God thinks is best for us does not often appear best to us. But we need to trust and follow the Lord.
This is illustrated in Jeremiah 24. God said that those who are carried away captive will be taken care of us and brought back into the land. Those who try to remain in the land will be removed and cursed.
Most of the people thought it would be preferable to stay in the land, but God told them otherwise. The wisest thing was to obey the Lord and do what did not seem wise but would work out wise in the end.
What is God telling us to do? Probably it seems foolish to us. Yet, we must learn to trust the Lord, to not lean on our own understanding, and to let Him direct our paths.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: Fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” — Proverbs 3:5–7
