Power to the Faint – Isa 40
What a blessing this prophecy must have been to a people who had suffered so much. It begins by repeating the word ‘comfort’ several times. They comfort by promising that…
- War will cease (v.2).
- Sin will be pardoned (v.2).
- The Lord is coming and bringing great changes to the earth (v.3-4).
- All people will see the glory of the Lord (v.5).
- All people will fade, but God’s word will stand for ever (v.6-8).
- God will come to take away their fear and to care for them like a shepherd (v.9-11).
- God is over all the nations, and the nations are less than nothing to Him (v.12-17).
- God is unique and incomparable (v.18-24).
As a result, we should:
- Worship the One and only true and holy God (v.25).
- Be awed by God’s knowledge and power (v.26).
- Look to God for strength because He never faints or grows weary (v.28).
- Wait upon the Lord and allow Him to renew our strength (v.29-31).
