Sweet Meditations on the Lord’s Creative Power – Ps 104
In Psalm 103, David challenges himself to bless the Lord for His holy and gracious character; in Psalm 104, he meditates on God’s creative power and once again says to himself, ‘Bless the Lord, o my soul.’
This Psalm is full of beautiful descriptions of how the Lord formed the earth, the seas, and the heavens, how He places man and beast in His creation, and how He sustains all life. All of creation brings glory to the Lord, and the appropriate response is to:
- Sing to the Lord as long as we live (v.33).
- Sing praise to our God while we have our being (v.33).
- Enjoy sweet meditations of the Lord (v.34).
- Be glad in the Lord (v.34).
- Desire that the wicked be destroyed and the Lord be praised (v.35).
How often do we take time to meditate on the Lord’s glory in creation? Do we go out into the world and enjoy God’s creation? Do we respond with singing, praise, meditations, and joy to what we see of the Lord in creation? Do we humble ourselves under His mighty hand or do we resist and harden our hearts?
Psalm 104:24 O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.
