They Crucified Him – Mark 15

And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.” — Mark 15:25

All of time and eternity seemed to build to this moment when God the Son allowed wicked men to nail Him to a cross and bear the sin of all mankind.

The statement, “and they crucified him,” sums up a death so brutal and agonizing it was reserved for the worst criminals in Rome. Not only was it a cruel and prolonged death, for Jesus it contained eternal, infinite elements because of who He was.

The darkness that prevailed over the whole earth for three hours while He hung there gives us some indication as to what was happening. He became the offering for our sin. He took our place and the wrath of God was poured out on Him.

What love! What a sacrifice! Words cannot express what it means that He died for us. Though “they crucified him,” He willingly laid down His life for us.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for your sacrifice for us. Thank you for dying for me, in my place, for my sin!
