Which Was The Son of Adam – Luke 3

And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli…which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.” — Luke 3:23,38

There are several differences in the genealogies of Matthew and Luke and several opinions about the purpose of these genealogies. But one big purpose is definitely to trace Jesus back to Adam and then to God. Jesus is not just the son of Abraham and the Jewish Messiah, He is the son of Adam, the Saviour of the world.

He came into the world by means of the nation of Israel and the Jewish people, but He came for much more than the Jews. He came to be “a light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of [God’s] people Israel” (Luke 2:32). As a result of His coming, “all flesh shall see the salvation of God” (Luke 3:6).

I am so thankful that Jesus is the son of Adam. He came into the world and became part of the human race so that He could redeems us and rescue us. As Hebrews 2:14 says, He took on Him flesh and blood, so that He could destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil.

Jesus became one of us, so He could redeem us, so He could die for us, so He could shed blood for us, and save us.
