Who Is Like the Lord Our God? – Ps 113

Psalm 113:5–6 Who is like unto the Lord our God, Who dwelleth on high, Who humbleth himself to behold The things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

This is a wonderful Psalm! No other way to say it. It declares the following wonderful truths:

  • The Lord is worthy of praise. All people, everywhere, for all time should praise the Lord (v.1-3).
  • The Lord is exalted over all nations and His glory is in the heavens. There is no one like the Lord our God, who sits enthroned on high (v.4-5).
  • Though Lord is high and above all, He humbles himself to our heavens and our earth (v.6).
  • He comes into our world to show grace to the poor and needy and the barren. He make the poor princes and the barren women to have children (v.7-9).

What a wonderful description of the kind of God we serve! A God who is great and worthy of praise for who He is. Yet a God who leaves His glory and shows grace and love to those who do not deserve it.

We should praise Him. We should magnify Him. We should proclaim to those who are poor and needy that there is a gracious Saviour who came to die for them and to give them eternal life.
