Whosoever Believeth on Him – Romans 9
‘As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.’ — Romans 9:33
The book of Romans lays out the righteousness of God to justify people by faith and to condemn the unrighteous who do not believe (1:17-18). All that God promises to do for whoever believes in Romans 5-8 brings up the question, “What about Israel who was chosen by God as a people?”
Romans 9 shows that God’s choice of Israel was not based on their own goodness or merit. It was the sovereign choice of God to choose those He wants to choose and not to choose those He didn’t want to choose.
This foundation of God’s sovereign choice then explains that God has also sovereignly chosen to save all who believe on Jesus Christ. Biological Jews who did not believe would be rejected and Gentiles who were not part of the chosen nation would be saved if they would believe.
The basic premise of Romans 9 is that God can choose who He wants, when He wants, and God has chosen that all who believe on Jesus will be saved and all who do not, whether they are Jew or Gentile, will be damned.
The way that God has chosen is Jesus Christ, the rock of salvation. Those who reject Him will stumble and be lost, but whoever believes on Him will be saved (v.30-33).
What have you done with Jesus? There is only one way that God has chosen for you to be saved. It is through Christ and Christ alone. Believe on Him today!
