If It Die, It Bringeth Forth Much Fruit – John 12

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” — John 12:24

When the time came for Jesus to die, He described it in terms of glory and triumph. He understood the principle of dying to bring life. He illustrated it with a seed that is planted in the ground so that much more fruit can come.

Then He applied it to us (John 12:25). In the same way, if we love our life and try to hold on to it, we will end up losing it. But if we are willing to do what seems like hate and give our lives away, we will keep it and gain fruit to life eternal.

The crucial decision and the crucial thing is to die. “If [we] die” we can bring forth much fruit. Death is so unnatural for us. It goes against every fibre of our beings, yet it is the thing that is required. If we can totally abandon ourselves and risk our lives for Christ, there is no telling what fruit can come.

Will you die today? Will you lose your life for Christ? Will you surrender your rights and plans to Him? If you will, He will bring much fruit from your life.
