Blood On Our Hands – Eze 33:1-20
One of the most important positions in an ancient city was the watchman. His job was to see the danger that is coming, to blow his trumpet, and to warn the people. If he did that, then he had done his job. If he saw the danger and failed to sound the alarm, then the blood of everyone who died would be on his hands!
Ezekiel was appointed to be God’s watchman. His job was to sound the alarm, to blow the trumpet, to warn the people. He could not make them believe or listen, but he could tell them. And God wanted them to know that he did not want them to die (v.11 “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked.”) Anyone, no matter, how “righteous” or wicked who turns from sin and to the Lord will be spared in the day of judgment.
The role of the Christian is not much different from Ezekiel. Like Ezekiel, we know the sword is coming. We also know how to be delivered. And it is our job to faithfully warn people everywhere. If we do not, then their blood is on our hands. If we do warn and they refuse to repent, then their blood is on their own hands.
Who have you not told about Jesus? Whose blood will be on our hands? What countries, cities, towns, villages, and people remain unwarned and unaware of the gospel and how badly they need it? Let us get busy telling people so, like Paul we can say, “Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.” (Acts 20:26)
