God Even in Trouble and in Sin – Ps 129-130

Psalm 130:1 Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.

The Lord is still Lord even when we are in trouble or in deep sin. Psalm 129 is a prayer for the Lord to deliver from affliction brought on by others. Psalm 130 is a prayer for the Lord to deliver from sin brought on by themselves. In both situations, the Lord is the One we can cry out to for help and for forgiveness. I especially love the language of mercy in Psalm 130 – ‘there is forgiveness with thee… with the Lord is mercy…with him is plenteous redemption…and he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.’

Because God is the God of the mountaintops and the valleys, we can cry out to Him. We can trust in Him. We can run to Him. We can confess our sin to Him. We can find help and forgiveness with Him. We should wait on the Lord and hope in the Lord. We should eagerly watch for the Lord, like those who wait for the morning (130:6).
