Perfect in the Eyes of Love – Song 4

Despite insecurity about appearance (1:6) and difficulties in their relationship (2:15), the couple in Song of Solomon come to be married and to greatly love each other.

He looks at her with eyes full of love and cannot find any fault in her (v.7). He praises everything about her (v.1-6). He is completely satisfied with her (v.9-11). And she has kept herself for him and gives herself fully to him (v.12-16).

The love these two have for each other is an example to us. If we work at love, we can cultivate love. It is all about how we choose to view one another. It is a decision we make in our hearts. It is about finding ways to please one another and to praise one another. This is true for marriages and all other relationships.

Of course, we also can see the love of Christ for us a well. We know that we are imperfect, but in His eyes and through His grace, He makes us completely pure and clean. As Eph 5:25-27 says,

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

As a result of His love and care, we should keep our hearts clean for Him. We should give ourselves to Him, and allow Him to sanctify and cleanse us with His Word.

What an amazing thing that we, through the grace of God and the cleansing power of Christ’s blood and word, will one day stand before Christ without any spot, wrinkle, or any such thing!
