The Lord Knows How to Deliver and to Punish – 2 Peter 2
‘The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:’ — 2 Peter 2:9
Not every ‘prophet’ is a prophet. Not every teacher is teaching the truth. In his second letter, Peter mentions prophets who wrote Scripture (1:21) and false prophets who deceive (2:1).
Peter gives a graphic description of false teachers. He points out that they will be deceptive, will teach dangerous doctrines, will deny the Lord that bought them, and will swiftly be destroyed.
Despite their ‘pernicious ways’, God knows how to deal with them. He dealt with angels that sinned, the world of Noah’s day, Sodom and Gomorrah – He knows how to deal with the false prophets of today.
He also knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations. Not all the angels fell. Noah and his family escaped. Lot and his daughters were delivered. So God can deliver us who trust in Him as well.
What a wonderful thing to know that the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and how to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment!
