The Lord Reigns – Ps 93

In just five short verses, Psalm 93 describes eternal realities of the Lord’s reign over all things and His coming reign on this earth. We see the Lord clothed with majesty and strength that He has put on Himself. We see that His reign establishes the world where it cannot be moved (v.1). The reason we know that the Lord reigns and will reign over this world is because He has always been the King from everlasting (v.2).

The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; The Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: The world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

Psalm 93:1

Even the mighty floods (oceans and seas) with their great power and noice of waves are subdued by the incredible power of God. Some think that this description of God’s power over the oceans is referring to God being greater than Baal, because the story goes that Baal conquered the sea. But God, not Baal, is over all and the winds and sea obey Him. The Lord Jesus calmed the sea in Matthew 8:26:

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Matthew 8:26

Because of God’s mighty power over all things, we can trust in the Lord’s sure testimonies (Word) (v.5). Finally, we read that HisHis house is holy and righteous. He makes those who trust in Jesus holy so that they can approach into His holy presence. Without Christ, there is no way for anyone to abide in His presence.

What seems big and scary in your life? What waves seem loud and threaten to overwhelm you. Know that the Lord reigns. He is bigger than the waves, bigger than your fears. He is on the throne of heaven and will set up His reign on this earth one day. As a result, you can trust His promises, rest in His majestic reign and comes into His presence by the blood of Jesus. Draw nigh to Him, trust in Him, and rest in His power and strength.
