The Sweet Honey of God’s Word – Eze 3

As God continued to prepare Ezekiel to be a prophet to Israel, we read that he is given a scroll (“roll”) to eat. He is to eat it and then go speak to the house of Israel. As he opens the scroll and eats, he finds that it was sweet like honey to his taste.

Now, the message was one of unpleasant judgments on Israel. They were going to resist everything Ezekiel had to say, but still he would be strengthened to keep preaching. Despite the unpleasant content of the message, the Word of God was sweet to him because it came from God.

God’s Word is always sweet and pleasant because it is true, accurate, gracious, and right. When we rebel against God, of course, there are parts we don’t like. But that is only because of us, not Him.

So, let us read God’s Word. Meditate on it. “Eat” it. Share it. And love it! Ezekiel was not the only person to say God’s words were like pleasant food (David – Ps 19:10; Jeremiah – Jer 15:16; John – Rev 10:9-11).

How often do you enjoy a meal from the Word? Have it found it sweet to your taste? If not, what does that say about you? Maybe you need to begin to develop an appetite for what is true, good, pure, honest, and lovely.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Philippians 4:8
