The Torment of Truth – Revelation 11
‘And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.’ — Revelation 11:10
In the time leading up to the return of Christ, God will empower two witnesses to prophesy for three and a half years. No one will be able to stand against these witnesses, and they will have the power to do supernatural things.
When their testimony is finished, the Satanically empowered beast will be allowed to overcome them and kill them. Their bodies will lie in the street of Jerusalem for three and a half days. While the whole world observes them lie there, they will rejoice in their death, sending gifts to one another, and being delighted that these two prophets no longer are tormenting them!
Their joy will be short-lived as God will raise them from the dead and bring them up to heaven in a cloud while their enemies watch. But, one thing that is interesting is how the world sees these witnesses as a torment.
The lesson for us who are seeking to be witnesses to Christ today is that we will often be seen as a torment as well. The truth of our message about Christ, His death, burial, and resurrection, is not something that most people want to hear. The truth that the wages of sin is death and that the eternal lake of fire is real is not something most people want to hear.
So, let us accept the fact that if they hated Christ they will hate us. Let us realise that the world is hostile toward God and all those who speak of Him. But let us also be grateful for the power of God that enables us to go on in spite of opposition.
