May 2018 Prayer Letter

Dear Pastors & Praying Friends,

There is never a dull moment in the work of church planting. Downham Baptist entered 2018 full of enthusiasm as a newly constituted church. Though the Lord has richly blessed the church, the last several months have not been without their challenges. Thankfully, though the resolve of the church was tested, it responded with courage and grace.

Since March, the church has been employing a pastoral assistant to help me 40 hours per month. One of the men in the church, Daniel, who has been with us since nearly the beginning has agreed to serve in this capacity. He has proven to be a great blessing to me and the church, and it is good to see the church starting to take more financial responsibility.

Evangelism Seminar

Our Easter services went well with a few visitors and Alan Campbell doing a great job preaching on Friday and Sunday as well as teaching an evangelism seminar on the Saturday before Easter. A number of our folks came for the half day training and went out onto the streets to evangelize.

The Lord continues to bless the Friday youth club with around 15 young people coming every week for activities and Bible teaching. We are currently going through the big doctrines of the Bible and trying to teach them the basics about the Christian faith. Please pray for many who are not believers to get saved through this ministry.

This month we have our missions weekend with an international meal and international day at the church. Pastor Brian Clark will be preaching for us and a couple young people we have known since our time in Northern Ireland will be presenting their ministry, Alan Campbell planting a church in the north of England and Hannah Neilly reporting on her missions internship in Burkina Faso.

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support. And please see the important note below about our new support address.

  1. Thanks for your latest update Travis. It is exciting to see how God is working in the lives of the people at DBC. Good news, it looks like everything is working again with your website, as I was able to successfully post on the VBC FB page. Many blessings to you all.

    1. Yes, God is good, and we were able to get our website back secure and working properly after a few months of problems. Thanks for your prayers and encouragement.
