One of the primary ways in which Satan is at work in our world is through sowing doubt and attacking the truth of the word of God. We see that as far back as the first temptation in the Garden of Eden, he was trying to get man to believe a lie.
False doctrine is a huge challenge that we face everywhere as a seek to spread the gospel. This is true in Europe as well. How does false doctrine hurt the work of the gospel?
False doctrine affects our minds and our ministries. The lies of the Devil begin to make us believe that the work of God can’t be done. We begin to think that God has neglected us. We begin to believe lies that are not in the Bible. That is why the Bible says in Hebrews 12:3, “For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
False doctrine affects the minds of those we are preaching to. 1 Timothy 4:1 says, “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;” Satan is in the business of teaching false doctrine that will blind the minds of men and keep lost people in darkness.
What are some of the lies we must challenge as we preach the Word of God?
- The false doctrines of a work-based salvation, of the prosperity gospel, of legalism, that religion can save, etc.
- The false teaching of evolution, or pluralism, that there is no absolute truth, etc.
Europe is a very religious place with many churches, many preachers, and much wrong teaching, so here are some things to consider as we do ministry there:
- You need to know what the Bible teaches.
- You need to know what you believe and why you believe it.
- You need to be prepared to give a Bible answer.
1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
