“…this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” — Luke 22:53
“Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.” — Luke 22:69
The night Jesus was betrayed by Judas and taken into custody was a dark time spiritually. Jesus said it was their “hour, and the power of darkness.”
For a time, the power of darkness (Satan) was having his way. Satan filled the heart of the religious leaders to reject and kill Jesus. He convinced Judas to betray Jesus. He gave them the opportunity to arrest Jesus and used the bloodlust of the Romans to carry out Jesus’ crucifixion.
Though destructive and real, the power of darkness is limited. While on trial, Jesus also said that “hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God” (v.69)! Though that night, the power of darkness was wreaking havoc on the body of Christ and the disciples of Christ, soon Christ would be seated on the right hand of God’s power!
We need to understand that there is such a thing as spiritual darkness. Satan and all of His forces want to dethrone Christ and destroy our faith. But His power is limited. There is another power, the power of God, that wins in the end!
As we face hours of darkness, we can emerge victorious through the power of God. Keep praying and keep looking to the Lord. He will strengthen and help us.
