Refusing to Return – Jer 8

The people of Jerusalem was intent on going away from God (v.5-7). The Lord asked:

  • Why are they slidden back by a perpetual backsliding?
  • Why do they hold fast to deceit?
  • Why do they refuse to return?

Even in the face of very serious judgment, they still would not listen or turn from their sin.

Every other creature (the horse, the stork, the turtledove, and the crane) instinctively know what they should do and when they should do. But God says, ‘my people know not the judgment of the Lord.’

What will it take for us to turn whole-heartedly to the Lord? Will it take catastrophe?

Wouldn’t it be great if we would simply listen to the Lord and come back to Him with a submissive and teachable heart?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we would respond to the still small voice of the Lord instead of needing some big event or some major disaster to wake us up?

May God help us to know when He is speaking and respond to Him, without delay and without drama – simple obedience!
